Thomas Rhett Akins, Jr. was born on March 30, 1990, to Paige Braswell and country singer and songwriter Rhett Akins in Valdosta, Georgia. Thomas Rhett’s early exposure to music allowed him to play the drums in junior high school and even perform with his father. As his musical abilities were growing, he started looking for outlets to express them, so he joined The High Heeled Flip Flops when he was in high school. When he went to college, he didn’t think of studying anything related to music, so he took up communications at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Personal Life – He Has Four Children With His Wife
On October 12, 2012, Rhett married his long-time girlfriend Lauren Akins, who works as a writer and a nurse. The couple has four children, the first one was a baby they adopted from Uganda, who they named Willa Gray Akins, and their second is Ada James Akins. Rhett’s music tells a story like most country singers, and his lyrics are autobiographical. His song Life Changes has the lyrics “I bought a ring, and she said “I do”, but everybody else said, “man, you’re twenty-two. “Whatcha trying to prove?” as a reference to when he proposed to his wife.
Rhett also sings about his adopted daughter in the Life Changes with the lyrics, “I remember the day I told my Daddy and Mama you’re gonna have a grandkid, yep, from Uganda, that’s right, we’re adopting”. Rhett’s wife and two girls were also in the music video for the song. Since then, the couple’s family grew bigger with their third and fourth children, who they named Lennon Love Akins and Lillie Carolina Akins. So, we shouldn’t be surprised if he will write and record more songs about his two new children and big family.
Thomas Rhett still maintains a close relationship with his father, and they even wrote a song together with another country musician Lee Brice. In some interviews, they recalled how they wrote Parking Lot Party in under one hour, which helped Lee Brice’s net worth and the sales of his 2013 album Hard 2 Love to grow. Today, he is worth $6 million.
