An Ever Burning Passion: What Are Your Favorite Red Hair Cartoon Characters?

I’m the youngest in my family, and also the only redhead. That said, I grew up in the shadow of my sister, who possesses everything the society considers ideal: Blonde hair with flawless skin and matching blue eyes. Television was my only getaway as a child, and it fascinated me whenever I saw red hair cartoon characters

These ginger heads showed me, as a kid, that it was perfectly fine to be different. Still, their appearances were not the only thing that set them apart from other heroes and heroines, but also their personalities. Since the color of red is associated with energy, cartoon characters with pink hair or red hair all have something in common: A burning passion, a desire for independence and to have their voices heard. Well, the stereotype has stuck,  but their spunky personalities and hair colors are surely captivating.

So, let’s take a look at some of the best cartoon characters with fiery red hair of all time! Which one is your favorite?

Jessica Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit)

“Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was one of the most outstanding animations of the time since it was a combination of live-action and animation, which we had never seen before. In the movie, Jessica Rabbit appears as Roger’s spouse. She is suspected of being unfaithful to Roger and taking part in the plot to frame him.

At first, the red-headed beauty didn’t receive much love. She is portrayed as a sultry, disloyal, and devious woman who leaves viewers clueless about her true motive throughout the first half of the movie. Only in the second half does her actual loving nature come to light, and we realize we have been terribly misled all along. By the end of the film, this fiery redhead marks herself as a unique Disney heroine thanks to her selflessness and bravery.

Red Hair Cartoon Characters – Merida (Brave)

“Brave” introduces audiences to Merida – a beauty with voluminous red locks – who embark on a journey to rescue her mother. Unlike other Disney heroines, there isn’t any evil force that drags her to this mission: It was Merida herself who brought the curse on to her family in the first place.

The story surrounds this Disney princess with red hair as she tries to undo her mistakes, grow up, and learn to take responsibility. Merida might not be the typical princess on the screen due to the mess she caused, but she can serve as a good role model for young audiences because, despite her flaws, she still possesses many redeeming qualities.

Red Hair Cartoon Characters – Ellie (Up)

We only have a few glimpses of Ellie in Up because she had already passed away when it began. Still, it’s enough to let us know how adventurous she was, as well as how much she loved Carl. The whole montage of how the two met, grew up together, and went from best friends to lifetime partners is the most heart-touching part of the animation.

Ellie And Carl’s Relationship Through Time

It’s wonderful that Carl and Ellie got to spend their life with their best friend, because who wouldn’t want that? They were always there for each other, and it broke my heart to see Ellie in her death bed, leaving Carl alone.

Red Hair Cartoon Characters – Misty (Pokemon)

Gotta catch ’em all! Any wannabe Pokemon trainer would be familiar with Ash’s OG female companion. Misty embraces all the red hair stereotypes, with extreme mood swings rivaling any of us on a Monday morning. Her bright tank top, jeans short, and spiky red hair in a side ponytail have been an inspiration for Halloween costumes, and it’s still not out of trend!

Blossom (Powerpuff Girls)

Sugar, spice, and everything nice…The leader of the three Powerpuff girls takes great delight in her stunning red hair, which she decorates with a red bow/highly explosive timer bomb. Blossom can be self-centered sometimes, but it doesn’t make her less lovable since she’s extremely quick-witted and outgoing.  If your dream is to shoot pink lightning bolts and ice beams out of your eyes, join her team!

Candace (Phineas And Ferb)

Candace’s Best Moments

Despite her obsession with her brothers’ antics, this teen-queen from “Phineas And Ferb” is still so endearing. She’s a ginger head we can all relate to, with mid-length carrot-top hair turning up at her shoulders and a cell phone permanently glued to her hand. And, as much of a pain they are to her, deep inside, Candace is always proud to have both Phineas and Ferb as her brothers. She even admits that they are the best brothers she could ask for – hey, that’s how siblings always are, right?

Red Hair Cartoon Characters – Anna (Frozen)

Unlike most characters in this list, Anna wasn’t part of my childhood. She’s rather new, but when I watched “Frozen”, I immediately got why she became a household icon. Her bravery and compassion are what makes her appealing.

During a time of great uncertainty, Anna made a mistake by leaving her kingdom and folks to a man she barely knew. She then went on a dangerous journey to find her sibling – the rightful queen – who just wanted to hide from the world. Of course, we can’t forget how she forced a random guy to accompany her. In the end, if it hadn’t been for Anna’s courage and determination, we wouldn’t get a happy ending.

Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

The Little Mermaid’s Ariel dedicated everything for love and would fight against everything that came in the way. While Ariel’s father thought her curiosity and rebelliousness were her worst traits, they were what made her truly stand out. Her headstrong nature made her one of the most loved Disney princesses.

Some viewers say she should have been happy with her life as a princess since she had a loving family, a sweet voice, and everything a girl could desire. Yet, our favorite redhead proved that the heart is what matters and she wouldn’t stop until she reached her goal.

Helen (The Incredibles)

Helen Parr, also known as Mrs. Incredible, is a ginger-headed superhero who is always ready to fight against crime. Aside from that, she’s also a kind-hearted, smart, and loving mother to her family. She’s one of the most versatile superheroes and one of the most intelligent characters in the franchise.

When Helen’s husband goes missing, she doesn’t hesitate to put on her gear and do whatever it takes to save him, no matter how dangerous it might be. She knows how to balance between being a superhero and raising her family. That said, Helen is among the most lovable Disney redhead heroes for her devotion to family and her ability to spring into action at any given time.

All those awesome red hair cartoon characters give you more reason to be proud of your ginger head! They prove that beauty is not defined by the Barbie doll we grow up with, and no matter who you are or how you look, you can still shine in your own way.
