Until now, I still think it’s a freak of nature: In a scene where fantasy series is often underestimated, “Game Of Thrones”, with all the fire-breathing dragons, subzero zombies, and “Mad Max” drag, has risen into a television colossus. Such a quasi-medieval fantasy show has gained 47 Emmys, including 3 for best drama. As the HBO hit began its final season, its intense popularity was an anomaly wrapped in Dothraki leather inside a fur-lined cape.
By colossus, I mean that the series has achieved lofty ratings – each episode gathered over 30 million audiences on average – and miles of fanatical press for seven seasons. And by colossus, I mean that “Games Of Thrones” has made headlines on all kinds of media, from The New Yorker to Vanity Fair and TMZ. Even former president Donald Trump rode the bandwagon – much to HBO’s dismay – when he posted a tweet that read “Sanctions Are Coming” about Iran, borrowing the show’s typeface and defining phrase, “Winter Is Coming.”
But, well, there are already too many articles about the legacy “Game Of Thrones” left behind, so we want to do something different. Let’s admit it: There are Funko POP dolls for literally everything, from Grey’s Anatomy to Godzilla VS. Kong characters. Of course, the famous toy company wouldn’t miss out on such an iconic series as Games Of Thrones.
Much to fans’ delight, they recently added new pieces to the collection. These include the resurrected Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister with his signature goblet, Queen Cersei Lannister with her crown, and Daenerys Targaryen in a Northern outfit. Still, my all-time favorite is the Night King On Dragon figurine.
The POP comes in two different pieces that can easily come apart: The knight and the undead Viserion. Just by looking at the photo, you can see how intricate they are: The cracks on the Knight King’s head are sculptured instead of being painted on, and I just love the details on Viserion’s wings! But the coolest thing is the glow-in-the-dark feature: I didn’t know about it when I pre-ordered this piece, so when I found out, it was a pleasant surprise.

A Song Of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game
I know, I know. There are already too many board games, and truth be told, I wasn’t going to include this one in the list. Still, this tabletop miniatures game is too gorgeous to resist.
Unlike most board games out there, every miniature comes pre-assembled so one can be up and playing in an hour without spending weeks gluing parts together. Containing forces for both House Stark and House Lannister, the game allows players to build their armies, select leaders, construct their Tactics Deck, and engage in one of five different Game Modes.
With a much simpler ruleset than the one by Funkoverse, this game is very easy to jump into. But I’d prefer it as a decoration, simply because the design is way too beautiful. All the pieces are delicately painted, and just like Amazon user Dave says, “it even reaches the artistic standard”.

As a GoT fan, I have so much fun seeing pictures of the characters in their elaborate costumes and the incredible set on which the series was filmed. That’s why I purchased the wall calendars for a few years, and when they discontinued them, I got this one to make up for it. Turned out, it was one of the best choices I had ever made.

Last but not least, I’m sure no ‘Game of Thrones’ merchandise can make fans happier than this box set. The series’ journey has reached an end on May 19, 2019, but we still have many reasons to revisit this wonderful tale of blood, steel, and intrigue. One of them is “House Of The Dragons” – the long-awaited spin-off that’s finally making this way to HBO this year.
I’ll just briefly review the quality of the set rather than the superbly epic content since everybody will know how good that is by now: The box set contains 38 DVDs that fit perfectly into 8 standard-sized DVD cases. Many discs include extra documentaries, etc, in addition to commentaries, language options, and subtitles in various languages. The rest of the soundtrack is very well executed and faultless, and so are the graphics.
As a faithful Thrones fan, I found myself drawn to the series again during the COVID-19 outbreak that forced me to remain homebound. I made myself dinner, pour a glass of wine, and decide that tonight I would watch Tyrion Lannister’s fateful trial in Season 4’s “The Laws of Gods and Men.” Or I would skip back to watch King Joffrey die in “The Lion and the Rose.” The battles of Blackwater Bay and Hardhome were also favorites, just like the show’s premiere, to reflect on how much everything changed.
So, whether you choose the ‘Game Of Thrones’ Bluray set or the DVD box set for the Thrones lover, they will thank you for life. I’m sure this set will be watched over and over again!
