She Is Living The Dream In The Countryside

While most young artists would prefer to go and move into a big city to pursue their artistic careers, as it’s where galleries and potential clients are, Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne decided the city life is not for her. She lives with her artist boyfriend, Will Squibb, in a cozy countryside cabin they found on Craigslist.

As you can expect from an artsy couple with their art spaces, they decorated their house in a quirky way with objects they found in vintage shops and art they made themselves. You shouldn’t be surprised if you would find any weird stuff in there like David Byrne’s suit costume as Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne has admittedly used some of her parents’ art to put some life into their cabin.

She Has A Jewelry Line

If you’re a jewelry lover, you better listen up: Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne has been making her jewelry for a few years now. If you’re curious about her process, she carves crystals that are wearable for everyday use. She explains that the more you wear them, the more your bodily fluids alter the shine of the gems, making your jewelry more personalized.

Her jewelry is called ABENI, which is one of her middle names. In some of her interviews, she explains that it’s a Nigerian word that means “We asked for her, and she came to us”. Her name references her parents’ hardships in conceiving her, and it seems only apt to be given that name when she finally came.

She’s Always Been Artsy

Of course, if you’re growing up in an artsy household, it would only be natural for you to become artsy yourself. However, it’s also natural for you to want to stop living under your parent’s shadows, which is what Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne did when she was younger. But the creativity runs deep in her blood that it’s no surprise she grew up wanting to pursue art, too. She studied at the California College of the Arts to focus on glass-sculpting as it was something she was always fascinated with besides jewelry-making.

She Looks Up To Her 94-Year Old Grandmother

Being an artist means you would also love expressing yourself with your style – it’s like art and fashion are mutually exclusive, in some ways. While Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne adores her parents and acknowledges David Byrne’s artistic influence and Adelle Lutz’s net worth and talents helped her get to where she is, she says her fashion icon is her grandmother. According to Byrne, her grandmother is the most elegant woman in her life.

But if there’s one person outside of her family that Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne considers her fashion inspiration, it would be Georgia O’Keefe. Of course, who would be influenced by a strong female figure who paved the way for many female artists to create and take up space in the art scene? Byrne seems to have a cool choice when it comes to choosing who to look up to.

Watch Out For This Name: Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne

Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne may be relatively unknown in the art scene yet, but it seems like it’s how she wants it as she wants to make a name for herself on her own terms without using her parents’ fame. That’s admirable because we all know how difficult it is to do that in a world overpopulated with artists with connections and born with a silver spoon. While she is both, we’re happy to know she acknowledges that it’s a fact she can’t change. Still, she’s fighting to try and make a difference without using much of her privilege. You go, girl!
