Godzilla Vs. King Kong And How it Began

Legendary Pictures unveiled intentions for a shared cinematic universe between Godzilla and King Kong in October 2015, which excited many filmgoers and fans of the two iconic characters. Imagine a film exploring a larger-than-life story shot in Hawaii, Hong Kong, and Australia, with big names attached. No one could have foreseen that a crossover like this would happen, but it did, much to everyone’s delight.

So, What Is Godzilla Vs. King Kong About?

Godzilla vs. Kong is a 2021 American monster film directed by Adam Wingard, who did a good job even if his previous films like Blair Witch, The Guest, Death Note, and You’re Next were a hit or a miss. And if you’ve lost count of the Godzilla and King Kong films coming, it’s only the fourth picture in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Still, it’s the 36th film in the Godzilla franchise, the 12th film in the King Kong franchise, and the fourth Godzilla film that Hollywood wholly produced.

Godzilla vs. Kong is a sequel to 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. So, the movie and the success of the direct prequels built the film’s hype, especially after Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Cox signed up for the film.

The Film Was A Massive Success

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Godzilla vs. Kong’s release became delayed but was available in theaters worldwide on March 24, 2021. Despite the film being available on HBO Max at the same time as its release, it shattered multiple box office records, collecting $468.2 million worldwide against a production budget of $155 to 200 million.

The financial success of Godzilla vs. Kong made it the sixth highest-grossing picture of 2021. The film was also a streaming success, with it becoming HBO Max’s most successful film until Mortal Kombat took over the spot. The critical receptions of the film were also mostly positive, with many praising the visual effects and action sequences. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds an approval rating of 75% from top critics. Unfortunately, audience ratings were only at 59%, but that didn’t stop the film fans from purchasing Godzilla vs Kong’s Funko Pop.

This King Kong Funko Pop has the gigantic primate giving you his traditional resting growl look and a stance that’s ready to attack any radioactive dinosaur any time.

King Kong With An Axe

We all know that Godzilla is way stronger and that King Kong wouldn’t stand a chance, but maybe – just maybe – the giant primate would stand a chance if he had an ax with him. The movie explored that possibility, and the weapon became an iconic addition to everyone’s favorite Empire State Building-climbing primate.
